Resolutions. When you want something enough, you make it happen.

As the year dwindles down, people are starting to get their mind wrapped around a New Year's Resolution.  I sure am here.  But I'm going about it different this year.  I'm adjusting my resolutions to better help me.

It's easy to say, "I want to lose 10 pounds".  Do you really know what that may be?  I didn't.  I didn't really understand my body until I began on this venture to try to get fit.  I didn't understand that I could lose "10 pounds" and still not be healthy.  You could be just as unhealthy at a lower weight.  I mean I started all of this so excited because I dropped 8 lbs and an inch then I checked my body fat percentage.  I was still at 41%.  Mind blown...I know.  Now I'm losing it slow BUT my body fat is down 7%!!!  It's not always about the weight on the scale.  It's not always about the generalization of losing 10 pounds.

What is less overwhelming?  Setting a goal.  I want to be able to do 20 push ups.  I want to run a 5K.  I want to get my BMI to a "healthy" level.  I want my next blood draw to tell me I'm no longer on the borderline for diabetes issues.

Now I know what you're thinking.  That's the same thing.  Is it?  Really?  Losing "10 pounds" won't necessarily get me to doing 20 push ups BUT getting strong enough to do 20 push ups might get me to lose "10 pounds".  Do you see that?  Losing "10" doesn't equal a 5K but training for a 5K will more than likely get me to lose "10".

I did the same style of resolutions with grocery savings.  I wanted to not spend more than $500 a month on groceries, so I said that I wanted to have an overall savings of over 40%.  I tracked everything.  I watched the percentages.  I watched the totals.  I searched for better pricing.  The outcome...I saved over 42% and became more conscious of all of the money that was going out.  I made our budget work better for us instead of not paying attention and allowing our accounts to go over.

Find a goal.  Find its purpose.  Now it's easier to work for.  You simply push yourself for that goal and just watch everything that comes along with it!
