Making Maxis

IMG_6449Recently I decided that I needed to do something with these old cotton dresses I had gotten from Old Navy.  I don't know if it's just me but every time I seem to find a long one that I love the first or second wear is the length of its life.  The second they hit the wash they become all sorts of misshaped.  They shorten...they widen...the straps get longer.  It's a mess and a heartbreak!

I had two that were still in the labeled as house only dresses since they were misshaped AND too big after my weight loss.  While trying to figure out what to do, I started poking around on Pinterest.  A ton of the cute maternity outfits had maxi skirts...genius!

I simply measured my high waist, bought 2" elastic in black for my waist measurement plus 8" (allowing for the sewing overlapping), cut the tops off the dresses, sewed the elastic ends together with the overlap, pinned the skirts with bunches/pleating and DONE!

Two maxi skirts done in literally 20 mins!

Two house dresses turned back into outdoor clothes!  Even wore one for our name reveal pictures!
