I have never been a crochet person. I find knitting to be much easier, but I also do not like to feel defeated by something.
When I was poking around on Pinterest, I found this pattern http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/rickrack-rainbow-baby-blanket and started asking my mom (the master crochet woman in my life) how difficult she thought it'd be. To understand how truly amazing she is at it...check out the girls' christening dresses.
She coached me through the start of it and I just took off!
I loved the colors and the style but I still felt something was missing. It needed something else! A while back I had pinned this http://pattycrochete.canalblog.com/archives/2013/03/26/26746067.html for an idea for my mom and started wondering how hard could a simple 5 petal flower be?
I got a pattern from my mom and then youtube'd some of the stitches I wasn't familiar with. And voila!
