Fit Foodie: Run. Mom. Work.

I have spent the beginning of this year listening to three books; Running Like A Girl, Cultivate What Matters and Girl, Wash Your Face!  All the books headed in the same direction of focusing your energy.  Do you want to lose 25 lbs?  Focus on going and losing 25 lbs.  Do you want to learn how to woodwork?  Focus on learning how to wood work.  Do you want to have more time with your kids?  Focus on scheduling more time with your kids.  Do you want to go run a marathon?  Focus on training to run a marathon.

It is just that easy.  But why do we have such a problem doing it?  Because we think that we can do it all and set up ourselves for failure.  We spread ourselves so thin and lose track of what it is that we actually want.  Do you really want to lose that 25 lbs or do you want to just talk about how you think you need to lose 25 lbs?  This is not a slight or a trick question.  If you want to lose 25 lbs, you need to focus on what you need to do.  Start making a plan.  Research what you would like to do to get you there.  Put it into action.  If you do not really want to lose 25 lbs, stop talking about it!  Learn to love the skin you're in and own it!  Put out there what really sparks your heart!

For me...  I want to go back to long distance running.  I want that quiet, soul soothing run again.  Problem is that I need to ease back into it all after my "reset" year.  I'm crazy ready right now but going out and running 10 miles right this second is not going to help.  Instead....  I need to be patient.  Make a plan.  Research.  Put it in action.  Focus.

In this process, other things may have to be put aside but they're things that don't spark me to start.  They are hard and take a lot out of me but I have felt for years that I needed to keep up with it all.  Maybe it was to keep up with those Pinterest moms (Gosh...I love them!  The stuff they do.  The way they decorate!  It's amazing!!!), awesome parenting moms (Love these ladies too!  I'm amazed with how they have it all together and remember story times.  They have custom birthday shirts and special craft times!  You're rocking it, mama!), the in-the-know people (You guys are the only reason I am hanging in there with what's going on in the world!  I admire your ability to stay up on the news and read all the amazing blogs.  Thank you!) and most of all the extroverts (You guys are beautiful!  You're the reason that I come out to those events when I want to stay home.  The fact that you remember what is going on in my life and make me feel like I belong...  You are simply amazing!).

So here I am...  Back to training for a race.  Back to committing to a plan.  Back to concentrating on hydration.  Back to listening to my body.  Back to full recovery practices.  Back to meal prepping.

Chocolate Chip Protein Muffins

Tandoori Chicken in the Instant Pot

  • 1 teaspoon curry
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 1 whole chicken/8 drumsticks
  1. Add all ingredients to slow cooker and cook on medium for 8 hours

Apple Pie Protein Squares

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup crunchy almond butter
  • 1 TBSP ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups oat flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 2 scoops whey protein powder

Kids' wraps - Cream cheese/Ranch seasoning, Turkey & cheddar

My lunch - ground turkey, onion, garlic, cauliflower rice and a veggie medley
