Plans & Plates: Testing out Plan To Eat & Week 45

Menu planning is hard.  So many people put it out there that it is so easy, but it’s not.  Not when you are managing larger families, have growing kids, picky eaters…well, anything beyond a family that eats the same exact things at the same exact times.  Not knocking that…actually I envy that!  I envy the […]

Plans & Plates: Apple Pear Crisp Recipe & Week 44

Lofty goals…  That’s what I had!  Lofty goals.  Okay, maybe not lofty but I definitely did not pay attention while I menu planned.  I saw “easy”, “instant pot” and a delicious picture.  I need to be more thorough when I look through recipes for menu plans though.  Almost every one of them required prep work […]

Fit & Frugal: Surviving a Fiscal Fast

As we are pushing through the most expensive…err…I mean, the happiest season of all, many are going to unwillingly prepare themselves for the fiscal fast of the new year.  This does not have to be a bad thing!  Actually, it can be quite a relief when you get down to actually doing it.  If you […]

Fit Foodie: Crazy busy

New scheduling and the holidays have made my menu plans really…well…meh.  I am struggling to remember to defrost meat before heading out for the first half of the day and then when I get back, I’m realizing that I simply do not have enough time to make it work.  One of these days I will […]

Banana Bread

Our go-to banana bread recipe has been swapped quite a few times in the last 10 years.  Changes in ingredients.  Changes in ovens.  Changes in what we have available without me having to leave the house.  This one though…this has been the culmination of all of those recipes.  One monster recipe that we use faithfully […]

Fit Foodie: The looooong pay period

My husband and I wince when the few long pay periods come along.  Currently, we are on a 19 day one and it is rough in the menu plan department.  We could have done a little less on the last pay’s groceries but we changed our budgeting plan to calculate the days in the pay period […]

Fit Foodie: A family affair

Our family cooking nights are turning into something amazing!  There is this pride that I am seeing in my children’s faces that is priceless.  Granted we are talking spaghetti cooking and not 5 Michelin star quality meals but one day…who knows right? The meal bins/rotation has made life so much easier.  I am trying to always […]

Fit Foodie:  Involving the kids more

Dinners have been different here.  The kids have been wanting to help out more.  We have been focusing on lower technicality recipes.  I am trying to feed their curiosity but also their want to help.  It is so easy to get caught up in the moment and turn a child down from helping because we […]
